Much like the recent storm swept through the northwest the night before, Manchester City overwhelmed United aside at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil win for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that clearly signaled their title credentials as they consolidated their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Back-to-Back Defeats for Manchester United

This outcome marked consecutive league defeats for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since May 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the top team with their championship aspirations severely dented.

United’s capacity to manage domestic and continental soccer with a limited roster has been a widely debated issue since they earned a place in the UCL. Considering the fixture list, it always felt like this was the week that would fully examine this capability. Second Half

The most obvious change came from Skinner at the break as Malard entered for Terland but by this time it was futile to alter the outcome of the contest. Former Manchester City player Park came nearest, striking the woodwork, but the away team were lacking in ideas and were unable to produce a solitary shot on target.

The hosts, meanwhile, could have extended their cushion when a superb Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it was insignificant to the winning team. Previously unable to beat any opponent who finished above them in the prior term, the manager's side now have victories against Arsenal and Manchester United to place them in a favorable situation after nine games.
